29 Jan 2025
The Water Diplomacy Center (WDC) at Jordan University of Science and Technology actively participated in the 4th Baghdad International Water Conference in Iraq. The WDC, in collaboration with the Blue Peace Middle East Initiative, organized a session titled "Transboundary Cooperation for Water, Peace and Resilience: Insights from the Middle East." Chaired by Eng. Hussain Abdulamer, Technical Deputy to the Iraqi Minister of Water Resources, the session featured prominent experts from the region, including Dr. Hakam Al Alami, Dr. Majed Abu Zreig, Prof. Bülent Inanç, Mr. Mufleh Alalaween, and Dr. Mohammadreza Shahbazbegian.
The discussion focused on the critical need for regional cooperation in managing shared water resources. In addition, the WDC played a key role in two other important sessions: a closed session on restoring the Hawizeh Marshes and a thematic session on enhancing capacity development for sustainable and peaceful water-based cooperation in Iraq.
This participation, supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), demonstrates the WDC's commitment to promoting water diplomacy as a crucial tool for achieving regional water security and sustainable development.
