WDC Hosts Webinar on Integrating Health into the Water-Energy-Food Nexus for Disease Prevention
The Water Diplomacy Center (WDC) at Jordan University of Science and Technology successfully hosted the next webinar in its WDC Learning Webinar Series titled “Water, Energy, Food, Health Nexus for Disease Prevention Methodological Framework" as part of its ongoing efforts to promote interdisciplinary dialogue and knowledge exchange in water diplomacy and sustainable resource management. The webinar featured a presentation by Engineer Rashid Albatayneh, who shared his latest research on integrating health into the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus framework.
During the webinar, Eng. Albatayneh highlighted the growing recognition of the WEF Nexus as an integrated approach to managing interconnected resources, while emphasizing that human health remains significantly underrepresented in existing nexus research. His presentation focused on developing a comprehensive WEF-Health (WEF-H) framework that places health at the center of resource management discussions rather than treating it as a secondary outcome.
Drawing on epidemiological and systems analysis methodologies, Eng. Albatayneh presented an analytical framework designed to quantify health risks associated with contaminants and exposure pathways across water, energy, and food systems.
The webinar also introduced scenario modeling approaches exploring interventions such as water infrastructure modernization and agri-food system transformation. Eng. Albatayneh noted that the proposed model is currently being validated with additional datasets and field data, followed by planned sensitivity analyses to identify the factors most influential on the system.
The webinar brought together WDC MSc students and fellows, graduate students, researchers, and participants from national and international organizations, contributing to WDC's mission of strengthening regional and global dialogue on water diplomacy, sustainability, and integrated resource management.
