Delegation of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Visits the Water Diplomacy Center at JUST
Irbid, Jordan –Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), through its Water Diplomacy Center (WDC), welcomed a delegation from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Jordan. The delegation met with Prof. Ahmad Al Ajlouni, Vice President of JUST, in the presence of Prof. Muna Abu-Dalo, Prof. Mohammad Ali Al-Omari, Dean of Nanotechnology Institute and Prof. Mutawakil Obeidat, Director of the Water Diplomacy Center. The meeting took place within the framework of strengthening academic and research cooperation and exchanging expertise in water, energy, and food, with particular emphasis on water diplomacy.
The Dutch delegation included Mr. Jacob Waslander, Envoy to the Middle East and North Africa for Water, Energy and Food, and Ms. Mariska Lammers, First Secretary, Water and Economic Affairs at the Embassy.
The visit commenced with a meeting at the Water Diplomacy Center, during which Prof. Mutawakil Obeidat delivered a presentation outlining the Center's mission, ambitions, and achievements. The presentation highlighted the Center's regional outreach, its support for data-driven water policies, its fostering of regional cooperation, and its focus on the role of water in conflict contexts.
In addition, the delegation engaged in an interactive dialogue with students from the Master's Program in Water Diplomacy, discussing academic and practical experiences in this vital field.
The visit also included a tour of the Nanotechnology Institute, attended by Prof. Muna Abu Dalo, Vice President of JUST and Prof. Mohammad Ali Al-Omari, Dean of Nanotechnology Institute. The tour aimed to showcase ongoing activities and explore opportunities to develop academic curricula that build capacity and strengthen regional cooperation.
This visit reflects the shared commitment of Jordan University of Science and Technology, the Water Diplomacy Center, and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to supporting dialogue, capacity development, and building effective partnerships to address water-related challenges in the region.
