Water Diplomacy Center Participates in the 11th International Geological Conference incorporating the 10th Symposium on Eastern Mediterranean Geology.
The Water Diplomacy Center (WDC) at Jordan
University of Science and Technology was honored to participate in the
11th International Geological Conference incorporating the 10th
Conference on Eastern Mediterranean Geology. Prof. Mutawakil Obeidat,
WDC Director, led a session titled “Water and the Future." In this
session, Prof. Mutawakil highlighted the essential role of water
diplomacy in fostering cooperation and ensuring resource sustainability.
He shared WDC's vision and active initiatives in promoting water
cooperation and peace across borders. Additionally, he moderated a
session on “Water Quality and Sustainability," further emphasizing WDC's
commitment to advancing sustainable water management practices.
WDC's
team, including Prof. Mohammad Azzam, BMPE Project Lead; Eng. Eman
Hamada; Eng. Moemen Alwahshat; and Ms. Haneen Abualhayjaa, actively
participated in the conference, representing the center's commitment to
advancing sustainable water solutions through regional and international
collaboration.
The conference was successfully held in Amman from
October 22-24, 2024. The conference was inaugurated by the Minister of
Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, and attended by
representatives from 25 countries and 220 scholars, alongside ministers,
officials from Arab and foreign countries, and academics and
researchers from local and international universities and research
centers. Participants engaged in discussions on various topics related
to geology, water resources, and environmental sustainability.
The
conference provided an invaluable platform for discussions on
innovative approaches and technologies in water and geological sciences.
Such events are essential in promoting knowledge exchange,
collaborative research, and regional cooperation, crucial for
sustainable development and resource management in Jordan and beyond.
Supporting
this conference aligns with WDC's mission to advance scientific
research, capacity-building, and cross-border cooperation on
water-related issues. Through the “Blue Peace Middle East 2.0-Capacity
Development" project funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and
Cooperation (SDC), WDC provided financial backing to the conference,
ensuring its success. WDC's sponsorship facilitated prominent visibility
at the event, including banners, a booth for WDC literature, and the
inclusion of WDC's branding across all conference communications. This
support also underscored WDC's dedication to promoting education and
innovation in water diplomacy and resource management.
