FAQs
Yes,
the WDC offers a Graduate Fellowship program to support young researchers. In
two fellowship calls, a total of 15 fellows were supported to conduct regional
water diplomacy research in the first two fellowship calls. This fellowship
provides funding for Master’s and Ph.D. students who are conducting thesis
research on water diplomacy and related topics in the MENA region. The program
is open to students from MENA countries such Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq,
Jordan, Lebanon, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, and Türkiye as part of the BPME
initiative. Successful applicants receive financial grants – for example, up to
$5,000 for an MSc student and up to $7,000 for a PhD student – to help their publishing
research and covering its cost. Research areas supported by the fellowship
include transboundary water management, international water governance,
analysis of water policies and regulations, and studies of the WEFE nexus (the
interlinkage of water, energy, food, and ecosystems). By offering these
fellowships, WDC invests in building regional expertise and encouraging
graduate students to develop solutions for pressing water cooperation
challenges.
- There are several ways to get involved with WDC's activities:
- Academic Programs: Students from Jordan and other countries can apply for the M.Sc. program in Water Diplomacy (which welcomes applicants from BPME countries). Likewise, those pursuing graduate research can seek out the WDC Fellowship for funding and mentorship on water diplomacy topics.
- Training and Workshops: Water sector professionals, young experts, and policymakers can attend WDC's training courses and workshops. These are periodically announced on WDC's website and social media platforms. These cover practical skills in negotiation, water law, conflict resolution, etc., providing a great professional development opportunity.
- Webinars: WDC frequently hosts webinars. Interested individuals can join to learn from regional and global experts and to participate in dialogues on current water issues. This is a chance to network with other professionals and stakeholders who are passionate about water diplomacy.
- Collaboration: For organizations and researchers, WDC is open to partnerships. One can reach out to the center via their contact email (wdc@just.edu.jo) to inquire about collaborative research projects, internship opportunities, or expert exchange. You can also reach the WDC through the website wdc.just.edu.jo, or Media channels:
- In short, whether you are a student looking to specialize in water diplomacy, a researcher seeking support, or a policymaker wanting to enhance your team's skills, the WDC provides opportunities to participate. Keeping an eye on WDC's media platforms and website is a good way to stay informed about new programs and calls for participation.
